Private Land Defensible Space
Westslope Forest Management (WFM) works with local granting agencies throughout Western Montana to complete various fuels reduction and forest health grants. These grants use federal funds to thin forests located within the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI). These grants are a cost share with the landowner, which significantly subsidizes the out-of-pocket cost from the owner. While these grants focus on hazardous fuels and the creation of a defensible space, they also address general forest health and forest pests and pathogens. WFM has treated over 5,000 acres in the WUI using various harvesting methods. Our wide array of equipment and personnel allows us to complete projects of many different sizes and specifications.
